San Diego Sockers News Release

The Sockers continue to struggle away from San Diego with a 6-2 loss in St. Louis. After three quarters of play San Diego remained within one goal, but their lack of energy caught up with them in the final period when the Steamers hit them with four goals. The defeat was the Sockers' fourth consecutive on the road and their fourth loss in the last five overall.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Steamers' Sterling Wescott was able to find the back of the net twice in the second. Sipho Sibiya assisted Wescott's first goal at 9:09 and Daryl Doran fed him the game-winning goal at 10:42. Newly acquired Socker Joshua Elbaum cut the lead to 2-1 at halftime with his first goal, assisted by Sean Bowers at 13:52.

The Steamers were able to put away the Sockers in the fourth quarter when they bombarded them with four goals. Mark Thomas started the barrage by putting in a header from Wescott at 7:12. Doran added another after putting one past Sockers goalkeeper Victor Nogueira at 10:16. The Sockers' Robbie Aristodemo tried to get a rally started late in the period when he scored off a pass from Mariano Bollella at 10:32, but it was the Steamers who finished off the scoring. Sibiya and Steve Butcher added the two final goals at 13:19 and 14:52 respectively.

The Sockers head to Cleveland to take on the Force on Sunday afternoon beginning at 12:05 p.m. (PST). The game, at CSU Convocation Center, will be the third meeting between the teams this season with Cleveland taking the previous two. San Diego has a 2-1 record this season in second games of back-to-back sets.
