San Diego Sockers News Release
DEL MAR---Diego Rovira scored a hat trick and Paul Wright, Aaron Susi and Chiky Luna all had four-point games as the San Diego Sockers (4-0 PASL-Pro) hammered the Louisville Lightning 11-5 in front of 2,379 at the Del Mar Arena. After conceding the game's first goal, the Sockers erupted for four goals in the final six minutes of the first quarter, with Luna recording three assists.
"We're such a dominant team, and we knew we'd have the fresher legs tonight," said Paul Wright, who scored two goals and added two assists, "We never lose at home, and it's really tough to come in here and play us."
The Sockers improved to 11-0 all-time in PASL-Pro regular season play at the Del Mar Arena. San Diego controlled possession throughout the contest and scored twice on the power play. Rovira added a short-handed goal and Kraig Chiles (two goals) potted a shootout goal for the Sockers. Chiles leads San Diego with seven goals in four games.
Louisville (1-3) was led by Darren Yeagle's two goals, with Jerry Chavez, Adam Boyer and Mariano Gonzalez also scoring for the Lightning. After earning their first win of the season on Friday night, defeating Tijuana 13-7, Louisville ran out of gas in the second half and was unable to maintain any control of the ball.
"We've been working on possession all week in practice, and that's our whole goal, to keep possession of the ball," said Sockers head coach Phil Salvagio, "We proved ourself tonight as the better side."
Aaron Susi had two first-quarter goals as the Sockers took a 4-2 lead after fifteen minutes. Paul Wright's power play goal was followed by Kraig Chiles scoring on a shootout penalty kick after a foul inside the Louisville penalty area with 2:03 to play before the half. After a Louisville power play goal by Chavez trimmed the San Diego lead to 6-3 in the first minute of the second half, the Sockers answered back with goals by Chiles and Luna to re-establish control. Rovira's short-handed goal off a Ze Roberto assist made it 9-3 Sockers with less than two seconds remaining in the third quarter.
Rovira's hat trick came with 5:55 to play on Roberto's second assist of the night, and Anthony Medina capped the scoring for San Diego with his second goal of the year, with Aaron Susi (two goals, two assists) picking up the helper.
The Sockers will now hit the road for four consecutive games away from Del Mar, starting next Saturday with a contest in Tijuana against Revolucion Tijuana at 7pm. The game can be seen and heard live on the Sockers' official broadcast home, 619Sports.Net.
