Sockers Announce Home Opener November 9th vs. Dallas

The San Diego Sockers will drop their fourteenth indoor championship banner in the 2013-14 Professional Arena Soccer League regular season opener, hosting the Dallas Sidekicks on November 9th. The Sockers will also drop a banner celebrating their professional sports-record 48-game winning streak, a streak that was ended by the Sidekicks last season. Kickoff is set for 7:05pm.
"It's great to open the season against another one of the legendary franchises in the game of indoor soccer," said Sockers general manager John Kentera, "The Sidekicks and Sockers played two tremendous games last season and we expect the same on November 9th."
The Sidekicks returned to professional action last season, winning the Central Division with a 13-3 record. The first meeting between the two franchises took place on January 27th, when Dallas ended San Diego's 48-game winning streak in dramatic fashion, scoring a 6-5 overtime victory on Shaun David's golden goal. Five nights later the two teams met again in San Diego, with the Sockers pulling out arguably their most exciting win in their four years of PASL play, a 5-4 win that saw San Diego score twice in the final minute in front of a crowd of 4,474.
While the Sidekicks were upended by the Rio Grande Valley Flash in the Central Division playoffs last season, the Sockers advanced through the bracket to secure their fourth consecutive PASL title. This year's rematch features two of the top records (15-1, 13-3) in last year's league, and two of the preseason favorites to meet for the 2014 championship.
The complete PASL schedule will be released on Wednesday, September 18th at 9am Pacific time. The league has expanded to three divisions and 20 teams in total. The Sockers will play in the Pacific Division with teams from Las Vegas, Tijuana, Ontario, Sacramento, Turlock and Bay Area.
The Sockers are the four-time defending champions of the Professional Arena Soccer League and have captured fourteen major indoor championships in franchise history. The team will resume their pursuit of "one for the thumb" and a fifth straight championship November 9th at the Valley View Casino Center.
