Columbus Cottonmouths News Release
COLUMBUS, Ga. â The Columbus Cottonmouths took four of a possible six standing points over the past week. They swept a home-and-home series with the Asheville Aces on Thursday and Friday while falling in a one-goal loss to the Macon Trax on the road Saturday night. This week's schedule is just as busy with four games in the span of five nights against three different opponents; however, three of four games are at home, with the lone road game Friday night in Jacksonville. Along with being broadcast on the Internet via Live365, Friday's game will be aired LIVE on WCJM 100.9 FM with Dana Barker, the "Voice of the Snakes," bringing all the action from the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena beginning at 7:30 PM EST. After the game, the "Fourth Period Show," also hosted by Dana Barker, will air on WCJM. The show features a live call-in segment where fans can call in to 706.645.2991 or *100 on Sprint wireless phones with questions or comments.

Thursday, January 6 â Columbus 6 at Asheville 2 (Attendance: 1,873)
The Cottonmouths played their second consecutive game in Asheville on Thursday night with the same results: a Columbus victory. While it was not the 62-shot barrage the Cottonmouths placed on the Aces in their last meeting on January 1, they lit the lamp six times on 43 shots in the win. Ryan Haggarty and Orrin Hergott scored a pair of goals each, while Lorne Misita and Tim Green added a goal apiece. Ryan Aikia tied an SPHL record with five assists in the game and set a Cottonmouths season high with five points in the game. Terry Friesen won his second straight start, stopping 40 of 42, while Mark Scally turned away 37 of the 43 Columbus shots he faced. The Snakes were 2 for 4 on the power play while Asheville was 0 for 4 in their chances.
Friday, January 7 â Asheville 6 at Columbus 10 (Attendance: 2,156)
The Cottonmouths scored a season-high ten goals en route to a 10-6 victory over the Aces in a game that was not as close as the final score indicated. Tom McMonagle tallied a hat trick; Tim Green and Tylor Keller added a pair of goals each; and Orrin Hergott, Doug Mann, and Chris Rook scored once each. Terry Friesen recorded his third straight win between the pipes despite not finishing the game due to a fight with Asheville goaltender Mark Scally. Friesen stopped 13 of 14 shots while Chad Rycroft stopped 13 of 18 in relief of Friesen. Scally stopped 6 of 7; however, Ryan Person was tagged with the loss in net for the Aces, stopping 30 of 39. The Snakes were red-hot on the power play, scoring on 4 of 7 chances, while Asheville was 2 of 4.
Saturday, January 8 â Columbus 2 at Macon 3 (Attendance: 3,133)
Doug Mann's second goal in as many games was one of the few bright spots for the Cottonmouths in a 3-2 loss to the Macon Trax at the Macon Centreplex on Saturday night. Tom McMonagle, coming off a hat trick the night before, notched the other goal for the Snakes. Macon scored all their goals in a span of 4:13 in the second period. Chad Rycroft acquitted himself well in net for Columbus despite the loss, stopping 34 of 37. Nick Niedert made 36 saves of 38 shots to earn the win between the pipes for Macon. The Cottonmouths were 0 for 6 on the power play while the Trax were 1 for 3 with the man advantage.
