
Snakes Sign First Two Players for 2011-12 Season

The Columbus Cottonmouths have signed their first two players for the 2011-12 season. Forward Sam Bowles and goaltender Andrew Loewen will rejoin the Snakes, who kick off their 16th season Friday, October 21 at the Snake Pit.
Bowles, 26, returns to Columbus for his fourth season as a Cottonmouth. Sam came to Columbus in 2008 after 19 games with the New Mexico Scorpions of the Central Hockey League. In 141 games, Bowles has collected 146 points over three seasons. He has finished 3rd, 4th and 2nd on the Snakes roster in points the last three seasons, respectively.
Loewen came to the Snakes last year for his first professional season. He posted a 12-12 record with 3.02 Goals Against Average and .909 save percentage. He also spent three games with the South Carolina Stingrays of the ECHL.
The complete 56-game SPHL schedule was released late last week, with the Snakes opening the 2011-12 season with a pair of home games. The Snakes will take on the Pensacola Ice Flyers, Friday, Oct. 21 and host the defending-champion Mississippi Surge Saturday, Oct. 22. Both games will be at 7:30 p.m.
