St. Joseph Blacksnakes News Release
St. Joseph, MO - With St. Joe eliminated from the first half playoff picture and Pensacola in the thick of the South Division race, it appeared only Pensacola had anything to play for this series. But nothing is further from the truth and the âSnakes (26-21) 9-6 win over Pensacola (23-24) continues the momentum the team had already built.
By winning the first two games of the three-game series, the âSnakes have now won their eighth straight series and are 5-1 to begin this 10-game homestand. The win was also St. Joe's eighth in 11 games against the South Division.
The offense received 10 walks and an error to go with their nine hits to pace the win. With the game tied in the bottom of the third, St. Joe struck for five to open up the game. The big blow was C Misha Dworken's bases loaded triple that made it 6-1.
While Pensacola would not go away, and while Donovan Graves did not have his best stuff, it was enough to take the second straight from the Pelicans.
Dworken also doubled in a run and finished with four runs batted in, while Jimmy Mojica had a pair of hits and pair of runs knocked in, as well.
Graves (5-2) picked up his team-leading fifth win and J.C. Huguet pitched a one-two-three ninth for his fourth save.
Sunday's series finale will wrap up the first half, and the Blacksnakes will turn to Andrew Edwards (1-1) to complete the sweep. Pensacola will start Clark Girardeau (2-7) for the 2:05pm first pitch. It will be "Julius Hochman Day" at Phil Welch Stadium as we honor local little leagues. All kids in their little league uniforms will receive a half-off discount and can participate in a pre-game parade. The gates open at 1pm and the broadcast on the web at www.stjoeblacksnakes.com and on 88.9 FM at the ballpark begins at 1:45pm.
