Columbus Cottonmouths News Release

The Columbus Cottonmouths have filled one of two vacant veteran spots on their roster for the 2010-11 season. Brett Hammond comes to the Snakes after spending the last six years at higher professional levels. He joins forward Orrin Hergott as the team's only other veteran.

Last season, the 5-11 forward picked up 28 points in 59 games with the Missouri Mavericks of the Central Hockey League. He spent the 2008-09 season with the Colorado Eagles of the CHL, collecting 24 points in 49 games played.

The Roseville, Minnesota native played overseas for the 2007-08 season, picking up 20 goals and 21 assists in 44 games. From 2004-2007, he spent three seasons with the Fresno Falcons of the ECHL, registering 51 points in 106 total games. At age 30, Hammond becomes the oldest player on the Snakes roster.

The Snakes now have 11 forwards, six defensemen and two goaltenders, bringing their roster to 19 players. The Snakes have the option of having 17 or 18 players on their opening night roster, with only 17 dressing for each game.

The Cottonmouths host the Pensacola Ice Flyers this Friday, Oct. 22 for their home opener. Game time is 7:30 p.m., with a special pre-game ceremony honoring long-time captain 'The Chief' Craig Stahl, whose #32 will be retired prior to the game. The first 2,500 fans will receive a magnetic schedule, courtesy of TIC Federal Credit Union and WXTX Fox-54.
