Smokies Win Finale In Mississippi

PEARL, MS - The Tennessee Smokies (16-30) defeated the Mississippi Braves (29-19) 2-1 Sunday afternoon at Trustmark Park. LHP Luis Lugo (W, 2-3) struck out five over 3.1 scoreless innings for his second win of the series. The Smokies win snapped the M-Braves four game winning streak.
RHP Peyton Remy, making his first start since being activated from the injured list, allowed one run on two hits in 2.2 innings. Mississippi's run against Remy scored on Shea Langeliers's RBI single in the first.
The Smokies tied the game in the second inning on Tyler Payne's two-out RBI double, scoring Brennen Davis. The winning run scored in the fifth. Connor Myers reached on a fielder's choice, moved to second on a throwing error, and scored on Carlos Sepulveda's RBI single off M-Braves starter RHP A.J. Puckett (L, 1-3). Puckett took the loss, he allowed two unearned runs on five hits in 5.2 innings. Puckett also struck out six Smokies hitters.
Lugo worked around four hits and two walks to earn his second win of the week. LHP Brendon Little struck out two in two scoreless innings, and RHP Ethan Roberts (SV, 1) pitched a perfect ninth for his first save. Sepulveda finished 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Smokies. Langeliers went 1-for-3 with an RBI single and a walk for the M-Braves.
The Smokies return home to begin a series with the Rocket City Trash Pandas at Smokies Stadium on Tuesday night, with first pitch scheduled for 7 PM. Fans can hear all Smokies games by going to https://www.milb.com/tennessee/fans/audio-listen-live.
