Orlando Rays News Release
ORLANDO -Orlando struggled to get the clutch hit and couldn't slow down Tennessee's offense as the Smokies beat the Rays 10-3 at Cracker Jack Stadium Thursday.
Orlando's red-hot offense struggled against the Tennessee bullpen, being limited to just one run over the final six at-bats. The Rays didn't help their cause much, stranding 10 base runners on the night, including leaving the bases loaded in the 5th inning.
After the teams exchanged two-run innings in the first and second, Tennessee took the lead for good in the 5th, pushing two runs across on a two-run homer by Bucky Jacobsen. Orlando would answer with a single run in the bottom half of the inning, but the Smokies would blow the game open in the 7th, scoring four runs to put the game away. The Smokies' seventh inning featured a three-run homer by Dan Moylan, who finished the evening 2-4 with one runs and six RBI.
Joey Gathright went 2-3 with a run scored and three stolen bases on the night, while B.J. Barns was 2-4 with a RBI.
With the win, Orlando dropped to 22-28 on the second half and 54-65 overall, while Tennessee improved its record to 30-22, 65-57. The Rays and Smokies close out the four-game series tomorrow at 7:05, with Orlando sending RHP Bartolome Fortunato (4-2, 2.57) to the mound against RHP Josh Axelson (2-1, 1.84).
