Louisville Fire News Release
DIVISION BATTLE: The Fire will be back in action Friday night against Albany at 7:30 P.M. in Freedom Hall. The Fire is 1-1 all-time against the Conquest with each team winning on the road last season when they played. The Fire is 1-2 in the East Division and is looking to improve upon that record and keep pace with Wilkes-Barre for third place in the East.
FIRE DROPS THIRD STRAIGHT: The Fire dropped their third straight game on Saturday, 47-43, to the Florida Firecats. The Fire had the chance to win the game on the last play and Matthew Sauk's pass attempt to Rob Mager in the end zone came up short. Mager was named Offensive Player of the Game for his 10 receptions for 134 yards and four touchdowns. Fire wide receiver/linebacker Dennis Fryzel tied the Fire single game record for receptions with 14.
RECORD BREAKER: In addition to Fryzel's record tying performance on Saturday the Fire's do it all lineman Demetrius "the Freight Train" Forney broke the record for most games played as a member of the Fire, playing in his 46th game.
TIGER GOES NORTH: Fire wide receiver/defensive back Tony Stallings will join the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League this week. Stallings will leave the Fire as the team's all-time leading rusher with 248 yards and all-time leader in rushing touchdowns with 28.
THE CHASE FOR 300: Fire QB Matthew Sauk is heading in the rare territory in the af2. After throwing for six touchdowns against Florida Sauk is just 19 touchdown passes away from 300 in his career. Sauk is averaging five touchdowns a game in 2005 and is on pace to surpass 300 in June. Oklahoma City's Craig Strickland became the first player in af2 history to throw for 300 touchdown passes on April 1, 2005 at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
