(Windsor, ON) - General Manager Warren Rychel is pleased to announce the club has agreed to a new two-year contract with Assistant Coach Jerrod Smith. Smith, 32, recently completed his third season behind the Spitfires bench and his first with Head Coach Rocky Thompson and Associate Coach Trevor Letowski. He previously spent the 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons as the club's video coach.
"It was important for us to get Jerrod back," Rychel said. "He's come a long way since he joined us five years ago. He's very good with the players and I thought he, Rocky and Trevor had a great year together. I think we've got one of the premier coaching staffs in the CHL. And with a big season ahead, we wanted to keep that momentum going."
Smith says he's looking forward to a big year in a group he enjoys being part of day-to-day.
"I'm obviously thrilled to be back," he said. "This organization has shown me nothing but loyalty and respect since the day I started. I love working with Rocky and Trevor and I'm proud of what we accomplished last season. We've got a big year coming up. Hosting the MasterCard Memorial Cup is a great opportunity. There's no place I would rather be."
