The National Lacrosse League has announced Player of the Week awards for Week #2, after seven teams played their 2013 NLL regular season openers over five games this past weekend.
Washington Stealth forward Cliff Smith won Offensive Player of the Week for the second straight week while Philadelphia Wings transition player Brodie Merrill, Toronto Rock goaltender Nick Rose and Edmonton Rush rookie Curtis Knight won th e award at their respective positions.
Offensive Player of the Week
WSH - Cliff Smith (4G, 3A): Smith recorded seven points (4+3) in Washington's 17-13 win at Colorado on Saturday
Transition Player of the Week
PHI - Brodie Merrill (1G, 2A, 16 LB): Merrill recorded three points (1+2) and 16 loose balls in Philadelphia's 13-8 win against Buffalo on Friday.
Defensive Player of the Week
TOR - Nick Rose (2 GP, 2W, 10.00 GAA, .817 SV%): Rose made 45 saves on 56 shots in Toronto's 13-11 win at Calgary on Saturday and 44 saves on 53 shots in Toronto's 10-9 win at Edmonton on Sunday.
Rookie Player of theWeek
EDM - Curtis Knight (3G, 2A): Knight recorded five points (3+2) in Edmonton's 10-9 loss against Toronto on Sunday.
The NLL Player Awards are determined by a weekly vote of the league's general managers and head coaches.
