Smith Dominates Outlaws
August 2, 2008 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Orange County Flyers News Release
Jesse Smith picked up right where Flyers SP Matt Durkin left off last night and led the Flyers to a 4-2 win over the Chico Outlaws. After Durkin's dominant seven innings Friday, Smith did him one better by pitching eight strong innings, including retiring the first 14 batters that he faced.
Smith struck out eight to earn his fourth win of the season and second victory in Chico. Dane De La Rosa closed the game for the second straight night, picking up his 11th save in the process.
The Flyers (9-8) found interesting ways to score runs on the night. They plated two runs on bases loaded walks, one on a groundout to shortstop and another on a balk.
Jose Valdez broke up Jesse Smith's perfect start with a clean single to centerfield. Eric Pringle capped the 5th inning rally with a two-run single for Chico (7-11).
The Flyers will look for the sweep Sunday when they send Charles Merricks to the mound.
