Long Beach Armada News Release
Long Beach had a great start to Game 2 in Yuma. They striked first in the first and second inning with three runs. Yuma answered to come within one. Yuma tied with Long Beach in the eighth went ahead thanks to a HR and base hit to drive in two. Long Beach would come within one in the ninth, but fall short 6-5.
Armada starter Dusty Gober pitched another great game. Getting a no decision, Gober went 7 innings giving up 4 runs, 2 earned on 6 hits, walking 3 and striking out 5. Justin Segal (1-3) came on in relief in the eighth giving up 2 runs and getting the loss. A tough outing all around for the Armada who lead and had the game tied for most of Game 2.
C Octavio Martinez drove in the first two runs in the first. Martinez went 1 for 4 with 2 RBI. 3B Ryan Lehr had himself a game going 2 for 4 with a run driven in and a run scored. 1B Brett Flowers went 2 for 3 driving in RF Norm Hutchins in the ninth. That inning saw a valiant comeback attempt by the Fleet that involved a two out RBI and Martinez getting hit in the head clearing the benches, but no fight occurred only words exchanged.
Scorpions starter Roger Luque pitched a no decision going 6 innings giving up 4 runs on 7 hits, walking 2 and striking out 3. Mike Martin (2-1) got the win pitching 2 innings giving up no runs keeping the game tied at 4. James Garcia got his 8th save in the ninth that involved a first pitch plunking of Martinez.
Yuma got a pair of solo HR from LF Rich Janeway and 1B AJ Valentine. SS Ryan Barba went 2 for 4 with a RBI. Tomorrows starters for Long Beach Jonathan Figueroa (4-0) and for Yuma TBA. Game time is at 7:05pm.
