Slugger Valentin Added to 'Fish Tank'

Bridgeport, Conn. - Bridgeport Bluefish team officials today announced the acquisition of outfielder/infielder Geraldo Valentin from the Joplin Blasters of the American Association for a player to be named later.

"We are confident in Geraldo's ability to help us out at the plate," said Bluefish Manager Luis Rodriguez. "This is a crucial time of the season and we're glad to have him on board."

Geraldo Valentin joins the Bluefish during his 13th season of professional baseball and first in the Atlantic League. The outfielder began the 2016 season with Joplin of the independent American Association. There, he hit .329 with 18 home runs, 65 RBI and 71 runs scored in 98 games. The 33-year-old began his professional career in 2003 after being signed by the Kansas City Royals as an undrafted free agent. He made his debut with the Rookie-level AZL Royals, and spent his first six seasons with the Royals organization reaching the Double-A level in 2007 and 2008. In 2008, his contract was acquired by the Seattle Mariners organization, who assigned Valentin to High-A High Desert of the California League. The following year, he played for High-A Jupiter (Florida Marlins) of the Florida State League. Valentin has also played for teams in the independent North American League and American Association. In 919 career minor league games, Geraldo has collected a .288 batting average with 52 home runs, 445 RBI, 489 runs scored, and 55 stolen bases.
