Slow Third Period Haunts Florida

Florida Seals News Release

[JACKSONVILLE, Fla.] -The Florida Seals came to North Florida in search of a win but gave up a third period lead and fell to their rivals from Jacksonville 5-4. The Barracudas win stopped a three game series winning streak for the Seals.

After a slow first period and a feverish second period, the Barracudas had the stronger legs in the third period. Chad Peck and Jan Arvonen both found the top shelf in the third period to take and give the Barracudas the win, their second of the year when trailing after 40-minutes.

After no scoring by either team in the first period, the two clubs combined for seven goals in the middle frame. Jacksonville took a two goal lead on home ice and looked to be in control. Florida had different ideas as they came back behind goals from Justin Keller and Steve Zoryk.

Jacksonville reclaimed the lead shortly after the Seals tied it behind a great goal from Luke Pelham. Pelham raced out of the box and took a beautiful tape-to-tape pass from Martin Viazanica. Pelham continued into the Seals zone alone and muscled the puck through the left pad of Florida goalie Morgan Smietana.

The breakaway goal sparked the Seals though. Before the period was over David Deeves used his speed to

tie the game up. Ryan Rivard cleared the puck for an icing but Rob Sich hustled down forcing Jacksonville

goalie Pat Berrigan to play the puck. Berrigan gave the puck right to Deeves who shot it into the open net.

The Seals would take the lead when John Gurskis pushed a face off win to Zoryk. The Seals captain whirled

around and whipped a shot to the top of the net past Berrigan. Unfortunately, that would be the last time

Berrigan let the Seals score.

The two teams will again face off at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena on Tuesday night with the same 7:05 pm start time. Florida returns to home ice Thursday night when the first place FireAntz come to town. Fayetteville and Florida will battle starting at 7:35 pm in the Silver Spurs Arena. Both games can be heard locally on 1190 WAMT and around the world at www.wamt1190.com.
