Springfield Sliders News Release
The Springfield Sliders knocked off the Terre Haute Rex 10-8 tonight at Robin Roberts Stadium to earn a split of this week's two game series. Just like last night, the Sliders fell behind early, trailing 4-1 after two innings. Terre Haute would add a run to make it 5-1 in the fourth inning, but the Sliders came back and tied the game at 5 with four runs. C Matt Stevens hit a three-run homer, his third straight game with a home run, and 2B Michael Hurwitz picked up an RBI single. The Sliders then went ahead 6-5 on an RBI double by Stevens in the fifth, before the Rex took the lead right back with two runs in the sixth. Terre Haute added one more in the seventh to make it 8-6, but then it was the Sliders turn to wrestle the lead back. Springfield scored three in the bottom of the seventh, getting an RBI single from LF Mike Fitzgerald and the fifth RBI of the night from Stevens, with the third run scoring on one of four Terre Haute errors. The Sliders added an insurance run in the eighth inning on another RBI single by Fitzgerald, who know leads the team with 20 RBIs. Rob McDonnell got the win in relief and T R Dunne came on and pitched a scoreless ninth inning to earn his second save. The win now ties the season series between these two teams at 2-2. The Sliders will again be at home tomorrow night when they begin a home and home series with the first place Dubois County Bombers. First pitch is set for 6:35, and the game will be broadcast on the Springfield Sliders' Ustream channel.
The Springfield Sliders are members of the Prospect League, playing at historic Robin Roberts Stadium. The Sliders are members of the Western Division along with the Danville (IL) Dans, DuBois County (IN) Bombers, Hannibal (MO) Cavemen, Quincy (IL) Gems, and Terre Haute (IN) Rex.
