Dubois County Bombers News Release

The Dubois County Bombers made quality pitches and showed off some timely hitting at the crucial moments Wednesday night in a 9-5 win over the Quincy Gems at League Stadium in Huntingburg, Ind.

Alex Britt (2-1) worked seven and two-third innings to earn the win for Dubois County. He allowed ten hits and five walks as he gave up five runs, only three of which were earned. Britt also struck out eight.

Tyler House (0-3) took the loss for Quincy. He allowed eight runs - five earned - through 3 and two-thirds innings as he walked three and gave up six hits while striking out only two.

Quincy took advantage of some early Britt control issues to score two in the second. Nick Tindall led off with a walk, and after Brandon Brian and Kyle Upp followed with weak singles, Britt walked Nick Moore to force in a run.

Bombers pitching coach Jordan Keener visited Britt on the mound, and the burly right hander settled in, inducing two fly outs and a strikeout and allowing only one further run.

Dubois County got those runs back and then some in the bottom of the inning. Scott Windler singled, Brendan Neel walked, and Kolin Conner knocked Windler in with a double. Austin Nyman followed with a bunt, driving in Neel and moving Conner to third with two outs.

Landon Curry followed with a groundball that snuck under the glove of shortstop Matt Munoz, an error that proved costly. Conner scored, and the next batter, Frank Rawdow, drove a pitch over the fence in left-center field, staking the Bombers to a 5-2 lead.

Dubois County extended their lead to 8-2 with a three-run fourth inning. Nyman cracked a one-out double, Curry walked, and, after a Rawdow fly out, Dalton Rouleaux drove in Nyman with a double. Curry and Rouleaux then scored on a double by Cody Daily.

Gems' centerfielder Greg Allen hit a solo shot to right center in the fifth to make it 8-3, but the Bombers manufactured a run in the sixth as a Rouleaux single scored Rawdow after Rawdow had reached on a one-out double.

Up 9-3, Britt retired the first two Gems in the eighth but saw his night end as the next three reached on an error and a pair of singles. Enter John Rashid, who induced a Munoz ground out to end the threat.

Rashid found himself in some trouble in the ninth. After retiring the first batter, he put the next three aboard via a walk, a single and another walk, and in came Ty Simpson.

Simpson struck out Nick Moore and got David Kuhne to ground into a fielder's choice to earn the save and secure the victory.

The Bombers improved to 16-4 and opened up a four-game lead on the Gems, who fell to 12-8. They play in Springfield Thursday at 7:35 p.m. before returning to League Stadium to host those same Sliders Friday at 7:15 p.m. Quincy hosts the Hannibal Cavemen Thursday at 7:35 p.m.
