Springfield Sliders News Release
The Springfield Sliders were victorious again tonight as they knocked off the Hannibal Cavemen 7-3 tonight at Robin Roberts Stadium. Hannibal scored the game's first run with a two out single in the first, but the Sliders had an answer in the bottom of the first, as LF Mike Fitzgerald singled with two outs to tie the game. The Sliders would then take the lead in the second, as SS Matt Highland picked up an RBI with a two out single that scored CF Wade Rothermich, who had tripled. The score stayed that way for awhile, with both pitchers pitching in and out of jams until the sixth when Hannibal tied it up. The Sliders would take the lead right back in the bottom of the inning, with RF Ryan Aper and Highland picking up RBI singles, and 2B Michael Hurwitz hitting a sacrifice fly to put Springfield up 5-2. The Cavemen cut lead to 5-3 with a run in the seventh, but again the Sliders would have an answer in the bottom half of the frame. After two Hannibal errors, 1B Reagan Fowler had an RBI single and Rothermich, who was 4-4 on the night, hit an RBI double. The Sliders' John White came in and got the final six outs in order for the Sliders, clinching the Sliders' fourth straight victory. The Sliders will wrap up their stretch of ten games in ten days tomorrow, when they host the Hannibal Cavemen again at 5:05. Tomorrow's game will be broadcast on the Sliders' Ustream channel.
