Dubois County Bombers News Release
HUNTINGBURG, Ind. - The Terre Haute Rex beat the Dubois County Bombers 6-1 and 3-0 Saturday at League Stadium to increase take possession of the Western Division's best overall record at 29-17 (13-4 in the second half.)
The Bombers fell to 7-10 in the second half and 27-19 overall.
The top of the order led the way for the Rex in the first game (Terre Haute's 9-1 win). Second baseman Edmund Cheathem went three-for-four out of the leadoff spot with a pair of runs scored and one driven in.
His teammate Patrick Chandler, playing right field and batting second, had four hits in four at bats with one run scored while knocking in four runs himself.
Kyle Zimmerman earned the win, going five and allowing only one run on four hits and a pair of walks while striking out three.
Justin Kruse lost for Dubois County, surrendering five runs on seven hits and three walks. He struck out seven.
Game 2, a 3-0 Rex victory, was tighter, but the Rex took advantage of some sloppy play by the Bombers.
Dubois County starter Nelson Marchan walked six batters - one of whom scored in the first - and hit another with a pitch in the fourth with two out and no one on base; he scored as well. He took the loss.
Nick Smart relieved Marchan, who lasted three and two-thirds, and his lone run involved a walk, an error and a wild pitch in the fifth inning.
Michael Schroeder earned the win, allowing only two hits and a walk through five and a third. Alex Sachs worked the final one and two-thirds for the save.
The Bombers host the Rex again Sunday at 6:15 p.m. for the series finale. It's Family Night at League Stadium, so there is a two-dollar discount on all tickets. That means general admission tickets are only three dollars, orange-backed chairs are five, and red-backed chairs are six.
