Springfield Sliders News Release
The Springfield Sliders fell to 2-7 with a 5-2 loss at Hannibal in the first of a two game series tonight. Springfield got things started in the second inning as Michael Hurwitz hit a two run single for his seventh and eighth RBIs of the season. Brandon Shaw looked good for the first five innings for the Sliders, giving up just two base runners. However, Hannibal strung together four hits to produce 3 runs off of Shaw in the sixth inning to take the lead. David Frank came on to pitch the seventh and walked two of the three batters he faced, giving up two more runs to help the Cavemen stretch their lead to 5-2. A nice throw from CF Ryan Aper cut down a potential sixth run for Hannibal in the eighth inning, however, the Sliders were unable to come back and despite bringing the tying run to the plate in the top of the ninth. Hannibal has now won all three season meetings between the two teams. These two teams will meet again tomorrow at 6:35 and the game can be heard on the Sliders' Ustream channel. The Sliders' next home game is Saturday against the Danville Dans at 8:05
