July 3, 2012 - Prospect League (Prospect)
Springfield Sliders News Release

The Springfield Sliders opened the second half of the 2012 Prospect League season with a 19-5 loss at Danville Stadium in Danville, IL tonight. The Sliders wasted no time getting the lead as LF Mike Fitzgerald put Springfield ahead just four batters into the game with an RBI single. Later in the inning, C Matt Stevens hit a sacrifice fly to bring home another run and put the Sliders up 2-0. Danville's RF Tyler Fullerton led off the bottom of the first by hitting a solo home run, but Sliders' starter Zac Wittmus would respond to that by striking out the side. After the Sliders went down in order in the top of the second inning, Danville grabbed the lead, scoring 4 runs to go up 5-2. The Sliders would close the gap with two runs in the third on an RBI groundout by DH David Kerian and an RBI single by Stevens. Danville answered right away however, with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the frame. RF Jake Bergren led off the fourth inning with a triple, and would later score on an error, but again the Dans had an answer. Danville would score two more runs in the fourth, and another run in the fifth to get their lead to 10-5 after five innings. The Danville onslaught continued in the sixth, when they scored six runs on just two hits, with four walks and two hit batters factoring in to the equation. Danville still wasn't done, as they picked up three more runs off the Sliders' bullpen in the seventh inning. That would be all the scoring on the night as the Sliders' bats were silenced by the Danville bullpen. The Sliders return home tomorrow for the back end of this home and home series with the Danville Dans. First pitch is scheduled for 5:05 tomorrow and the game will be broadcast on the Springfield Sliders' Ustream channel.

The Springfield Sliders are members of the Prospect League, playing at historic Robin Roberts Stadium. The Sliders are members of the Western Division along with the Danville (IL) Dans, DuBois County (IN) Bombers, Hannibal (MO) Cavemen, Quincy (IL) Gems, and Terre Haute (IN) Rex.
