
Sliders Pick Up Split Thanks To Late Offensive Explosion

The Springfield Sliders earned a split of their weekend series against the Danville Dans with a 15-7 victory today at Robin Roberts Stadium. After falling behind 1-0 in the top of the first, the Sliders picked up four in the bottom of the first to take the lead. Danville would get one back in the second and the game would stay 4-2 until the sixth. Danville scored three in the sixth and two in the seventh to take a 7-4 lead. In the bottom of the seventh inning, the Sliders' bats woke up. It started with two outs when Michael Hurwitz struck out, but reached because of a wild pitch. From there, the next seven Sliders would reach in route to a seven run inning. In the eighth inning, the Sliders would add four more two out runs on a grand slam by Matt Tellor. In all, thirteen of the Sliders' fifteen runs came with two outs. Tellor and Sean Gerber each had four RBIs and Mike Fitzgerald added three to lead the way for Springfield. J D Dozier picked up the win in relief. The Sliders have an off day tomorrow but will be back at it on Tuesday when they take on the Dubois County Bombers at Robin Roberts Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 and the game can be heard on the Springfield Sliders' Ustream channel.
The Springfield Sliders are members of the Prospect League, playing at historic Robin Roberts Stadium. The Sliders are members of the Western Division along with the Danville (IL) Dans, DuBois County (IN) Bombers, Hannibal (MO) Cavemen, Quincy (IL) Gems, and Terre Haute (IN) Rex.
