Springfield Sliders News Release
The Springfield Sliders beat the Danville Dans at Danville Stadium in Danville, IL tonight by a score of 8-5.
The Sliders picked up a run in the very first inning after 2B David Kerian doubled and 3B Jake Ingold drove him in with a single. The Dans answered with three doubles in the bottom half of the inning which led to two runs and a 2-1 Danville lead after one. The Sliders answered Danville's run with a five run outburst in the second. Kerian hit a three-run triple to straightaway center, and then came around to score on the same play on a Danville error. The next batter, Ingold, hit a solo home run for his first of the year. Danville would again score two in the bottom of the second inning, but a balk scored LF Mike Fitzgerald, and an RBI double by RF Wade Rothermich gave the Sliders two runs right back and 8-4 lead through three innings. Things would stay that way until Danville pulled back a run in the fifth to close the gap to three at 8-5. From there, both bullpens would dominate with no runs coming across in the final four innings for either team. The Sliders got scoreless innings in relief from David Frank, Justin Hunsaker, Rob McDonnell, and T R Dunne, who picked up the save. The winning pitcher was Jeremy Holcombe who struck out nine Dans, the most by any Slider pitcher so far this season. The Sliders and Dans will meet again tomorrow, this time at Robin Roberts Stadium with first pitch at 5:05. The game will be broadcast on the Springfield Sliders' Ustream channel.
