June 22, 2012 - Prospect League (Prospect)
Springfield Sliders News Release
The Springfield Sliders knocked off the first place Dubois County Bombers at League Stadium in Huntingburg, IN tonight by a score of 11-8. The Bombers jumped out to the early lead as Sliders' starter Cody Repenning walked the lead-off man, who came around to put the home team up 1-0 after one. The Sliders would come right back after back to back hits from CF Ryan Aper and C Sean Gerber, with an RBI groundout by SS Matt Highland eventually driving in Aper to tie the game. The score would stay that way until the top of the fourth inning win the Sliders exploded for six runs. 1B Matt Tellor started the inning by reaching on an error, and then C Matt Stevens hit his fourth home run in five games to make it 3-1. The next seven Springfield batters would reach on four hits, a walk, a hit batter, and another Bombers error. Highland drove his second run of the game in with a double, LF Jake Bergren also had an RBI double, 3B Jake Ingold walked with the bases loaded to pick up an RBI, and Tellor, batting for the second time in the inning, hit a sacrifice fly to drive in the sixth and final run of the frame. The Bombers would answer in the bottom of the inning with two more runs to cut the Sliders lead to 7-3 through four. In the top of the sixth, Springfield would add to their lead on an RBI single by Tellor, his second RBI of the game and team-high 21st of the year. The Bombers would answer right back in the bottom of the sixth to cut the margin back to four, at 8-4. Ingold then picked up an RBI single in the seventh and Stevens drove in two more runs with a single later in the inning to give the Sliders what seemed to be an insurmountable lead. However, the Bombers made it interesting with two two-run homers, one in the seventh and one in the eighth to cut the lead to three. T R Dunne came out of the bullpen and stranded two runners in the eighth and pitched a scoreless ninth inning to slam the door and earn the save. Cody Repenning gave up three earned runs in six innings for his first victory of the year. With the win, the Sliders improve to 1-5 against the Bombers this year. The Sliders are on the road again tomorrow as they begin a home and home series with the Danville Dans at 6:30. As always, the game will be broadcast on the Springfield Sliders' Ustream channel.
