Sliders Earn Series Split With Walk-Off Win Over Dans

The Springfield Sliders erased an early deficit and completed their comeback in the bottom of the ninth to earn a 5-4 walk-off win over the Danville Dans today at Robin Roberts Stadium. For the second game in a row, Danville scored first as they took advantage of a lead-off triple from Tyler Fullerton in the first inning. The Dans would double their lead with another run in the fourth, but those would be the only two runs Danville would get off of Nick Musec, who pitched five innings in his season debut. Danville picked up a run off the Sliders' bullpen in the sixth to make it 3-0, before the Sliders finally got on the board in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI single from SS Matt Highland. The Dans scored again in the seventh to increase the lead back to three, but the Sliders had an answer. 3B David Kerian had an RBI groundout, and C David Maziarz hit a solo home run, his first hit since joining the team earlier this week. Back to back doubles by Highland and 1B Matt Tellor tied things up at four in the eighth, and Ryan VanSaghi pitched a scoreless ninth, to keep things that way. In the bottom of the ninth, Maziarz hit a single, then went to second on error on the play to start things off. After CF Ryan Aper was hit by a pitch, the Sliders had a bunt attempt foiled, and the lead runner thrown out at third. Highland then picked up his third hit of the day, a single, to load the bases with one out for Tellor. Tellor then hit a fly ball to right field that was deep enough to score Aper from third, to clinch another walk-off victory for the Sliders. With the win, the Sliders win the season series against Danville 7-5. The Sliders will have their final off day of the season tomorrow, before traveling to Dubois County on Tuesday to take on the Bombers at 7:15 ET. Tuesday's game will be broadcast on the Springfield Sliders' Ustream channel.
The Springfield Sliders are members of the Prospect League, playing at historic Robin Roberts Stadium. The Sliders are members of the Western Division along with the Danville (IL) Dans, DuBois County (IN) Bombers, Hannibal (MO) Cavemen, Quincy (IL) Gems, and Terre Haute (IN) Rex.
