Springfield Sliders News Release

The Springfield Sliders fell tonight to the Quincy Gems by a final score of 8-7 at Robin Roberts Stadium to split the two game series. The Gems had a 4-0 lead early last night, and tonight they jumped out to another early lead, scoring one in the first, three in the second, and one in the third to take a 5-0 lead. The Sliders would get their first two runs of the night in the bottom of the third inning after an RBI single by 1B Matt Tellor and a sacrifice fly by LF Mike Fitzgerald. Quincy would answer the Sliders' runs with one of their own in the top of the fourth, chasing Sliders' starter Zach Wendorf. Quincy increased their lead to 8-2 with two more runs in the fifth, but the Sliders' cut the deficit in half after back to back home runs from Tellor and Fitzgerald. In the seventh, the Sliders closed the gap down to one after an RBI single from CF Ryan Aper and a bases loaded walk drawn by 2B Michael Hurwitz. The Sliders could not score any more runs that inning however, stranding the bases loaded. The Sliders were then shut down by the Gems' bullpen over the final two innings, thwarting the Sliders' comeback efforts. The Sliders will hit the road for the next three games, starting tomorrow at 5:30 ET when they take on the Terre Haute Rex. As always, tomorrow's game will be broadcast on the Springfield Sliders' Ustream channel.
