Sliders' Bats Silenced By Bombers' Sapp

Another Opening Night, another loss for the Springfield Sliders as they fell on Opening Night at League Stadium in Huntingburg, IN to the Dubois County Bombers, 3-0. Starting Pitcher Adam Peters gave up two runs (one earned) in 5 innings of work and struck out 7 Bombers for Pete Romero's club. However, he was outdueled tonight by the Bombers' starter, Spencer Sapp, who gave up two hits in 7 shutout innings to earn his first win of the season. Ty Simpson came out of the Bombers' bullpen to pitch the final two innings and earn his first save of the campaign. The Bombers' scored two runs in the fourth inning on an RBI single by Austin Nyman and on an error by RF Chase Hainline. They then sealed the deal with an insurance run in the seventh inning. With the win, Dubois County sweeps the season opening home and home between the two clubs. The Sliders will look to earn their first win of the 2012 season tomorrow when they visit Danville for the first game of a two game series. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 at Danville Stadium and can be heard on the Springfield Sliders' Ustream channel. The Sliders' next home game is Saturday against the Hannibal Cavemen at 6:35.

The Springfield Sliders are members of the Prospect League, playing at historic Robin Roberts Stadium. The Sliders are members of the Western Division along with the Danville (IL) Dans, DuBois County (IN) Bombers, Hannibal (MO) Cavemen, Quincy (IL) Gems, and Terre Haute (IN) Rex.
