Slammers sweep Crushers

Lake Erie Crushers News Release
AVON, Ohio - The Lake Erie Crushers were held to just a run on four hits on Friday night at All Pro Freight Stadium, as the Joliet Slammers completed a three game sweep of the Crushers with a 5-1 victory.
For the Crushers, (28-34) the loss was their fourth in a row, and marked the third time this season that they've been swept at home, while the victory for the Slammers (35-26) was their fourth in their last five games.
Joliet jumped on the board first to take an early lead for the third night in a row. Josh Flores started the game with a walk, and moved to third on a double from Brad Netzel. Moments later, Flores scored on Erik Lis's sacrifice fly.
The Slammers plated two more runs in the top of the third. Flores started the rally again, this time with a lead off single. He moved to second on Netzel's single, and Hector Pellot was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Lis's second sacrifice fly of the night scored Flores again, and David Fox reached on a fielder's choice to score Netzel.
Joliet added to their lead with a pair of runs in the top of the seventh inning. Flores singled in Bobby Leeper to give the Slammers a 4-0 lead, and Flores scored on a wild pitch to plate Joliet's final run of the contest.
Jake Renshaw (7-4) held the Crushers to just a pair of base hits over eight scoreless innings of work, before he ran out of gas in the ninth inning. Patrick Norris started the inning with a base hit, before Jereme Milons walked, and Andrew Davis knocked Renshaw out of the game with an RBI single.
Renshaw was replaced by Joliet closer Ryan Quigley (19) after surrendering the run scoring single to Davis. Quigley put an end to Lake Erie's threat quickly, by inducing a pop out, and fanning the next two to end the game.
Randy Sturgill (4-1) pitched well for the Crushers, allowing three runs on three hits with a trio of walks and fanned four over six innings, but was tagged with the loss. Renshaw tossed eight strong innings, allowing just a run on four hits with a pair of walks and four strikeouts in a winning effort, and Quigley scored the save by retiring all three batters he faced in the ninth.
Davis paced the Crushers at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a pair of singles, and extended his on base streak to 33 games in the process. Davis now has 39 hits in the month of July. Milons's walk in the ninth inning extended his on base streak to 14 games. The Crushers were outscored, 23-4 in the series.
The Crushers will begin a three game series against the Washington Wild Things at All Pro Freight Stadium on Saturday night. Right Hander Thomas Campbell (0-0, 2.38) will start for the Crushers, and the Wild Things will counter with right hander Gary Lee (1-2, 4.22).The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
