Slammers Gear up for Playoffs

(Joliet, IL) - In their first year of existence, the Joliet Slammers finished the regular season with a record of 56-40 and won the Frontier League's East Division title.

Now, they're looking to do much more. The first round of the Frontier League playoffs begins Wednesday night as the Slammers take on the second place Lake Erie Crushers in a best-of-five series. Games one and two are at Silver Cross Field and both contests begin at 7:05 p.m. central time.

Wednesday, September 7th is a fireworks night at the yard and the Slammers are giving away a souvenir program to the every fan who comes to the game! Between innings, the Slammer Squad will throw candy and other goodies into the seats. "Captain" Jake Renshaw, who was the Frontier League's leader in wins this year with 13, takes the mound for Joliet. Don't miss the first playoff game in Slammers' history!

Thursday, September 8th is a Thirsty Thursday at the yard. $1.50 draft beers will be available at the Crossroads Grill down the left field line. Afterwards, all kids get to run the bases! Former Triple-A pitcher Tommy Mendoza will take the mound for the Slammers.

If the series goes five games, fans are encouraged to come out to the rubber match on Monday, September 12th. First pitch that night will be at 7:05 p.m. as well and more fun is planned.

Joliet Slammers baseball is presented by ATI Physical Therapy and the team's run through the 2011 Frontier League playoffs is brought to you by a number of generous sponsors including Velocita Technologies, Tom and Jan Quillman, Play Ball USA, and Harrah's Joliet. The Herald-News and AM 1340 WJOL, the home of the Slammers, also have been instrumental in the Slammers' success in their inaugural season.

Tickets for the playoffs are $11 for a reserved seat and $6 for a spot on the lawn. They are available at the Slammers Box Office or by calling (815) 722-2287 during business hours. Tickets can be purchased 24/7 at www.jolietslammers.com . Fans can also purchase tickets for the Frontier League Championship series as well. Any tickets sold for games that end up not being played can be redeemed for credit towards next season or returned for a refund.
