
Slammers Come up Short in Game Three Loss

Joliet Slammers News Release
JOLIET, IL - As the final game of the Slammers v. Crushers game got under way, Joliet would send right hander Brett Smith to the mound. Last night's big win kept the Slammers eyes on the prize as the hunt for another win commenced. A win in tonight's game would break the tie and give the Slammers the series win. After three late runs, Joliet came up short, losing 6-3 giving Lake Erie the series win.
The Crushers would start the game off by taking an early 3-0 lead over the Slammers. Connor Oliver would hit a two run homer to score Steven Kraft, who got on base after being hit by a pitch. Karl Ellison would drive in a run on an RBI double. Trevor Achenbach would come home on the double.
The top of the fourth inning would see Joliet call to the bullpen bringing in right hander Thomas Walker to the mound. Brett Smith would be relieved after three innings on the mound, facing 16 batters.
Lake Erie would extend their lead in back to back innings in the top of the fourth and fifth. Eric Callahan would hit a solo homer giving the Crushers a 4-0 lead going into the fifth. In their next at bat, an RBI single by Karl Ellison would send Trevor Achenbach home giving the Crushers a 5-0 lead over the Slammers.
The Slammers would chip away at the Crushers lead in the bottom of the seventh. Tyler Depreta-Johnson would be walked, allowing Brian Parreira to score. Scott Holzwasser would advance to first on a fielder's choice that caught Depreta-Johnson in a 6-4 putout allowing Lane Baremore to score. Joliet would tally up two runs in their at bat putting the score at 5-2.
The top of the eighth would see Lake Erie put one more run on the board to further their lead. Steve Passatempo would go yard on the first pitch in his at bat with a solo homer. The score would be 6-2 going into the bottom half of the eighth.
In the Slammers at bat in the eighth inning, Braxton Davidson would cross the plate on a wild pitch during Jackson Dvorak's at bat. Dvorak pinch hit for Brian Parriera. The one run scored by Joliet put the tally at 6-3 going into the ninth.
Keon Taylor would take the bump in the top of the ninth for Joliet, giving Walker a breather. Walker would face 21 batters in five innings while on the mound. The sidewinder closed out the top of the inning with a 1-2-3. The three late runs by the Slammers proved to be too little too late as Lake Erie walked away with the 6-3 win. Tonight's loss gave the Crushers the series win, and put the Slammers season record at 22-40.
