Joliet Slammers News Release
Joliet, IL - The Joliet Slammers presented by ATI Physical Therapy found themselves behind the eight ball early after Windy City's offense pounced on Joliet's newly acquired Scot Hoffman making his Joliet debut. The Thunderbolts combined for 7 runs after 3 innings of play and it seemed like it was going to be a long night for the Slammers.
Joliet broke into the run column in the 3rd inning to make it a 7-1 ballgame and then Hoffman settled into a nice groove and the Joliet Slammers' continued to showcase their never say die attitude.
Joliet shutout the Bolts' offense the remainder of the way and in the 8th inning Joliet brought them closer when Edwin Gomez laced a home run over the right field wall that was good for 2 runs and then Spencer Navin nearly hit a ball off the light tower in left field for a solo shot.
Down by 2 runs in the 9th against elite closer Brian Loconsole, All-Star third basemen Danny Zardon singled to left field to plate a pair that tied the ballgame at 7 as Slammers Stadium erupted. Luis Diaz replaced Gomez at 2nd base as a pinch-runner representing the winning-run with Spencer Navin at the plate. Loconsole struggled to find the plate and then Navin hit a shallow fly to right that dropped in front of Blair Beck who fired home, but it was too late as Diaz slid across the plate and the Slammers mobbed Navin in shallow right as he was showered in Gatorade.
Skylar Janisse gets the win for Joliet and Loconsole gets the loss for Windy City.
Spencer Navin is our player of the game with a home run and driving in the winning-run.
Game 3 will be at 7:05pm tomorrow night. Zardon singled to left field to plate a pair that tied the ballgame at 7 as Slammers Stadium erupted.
