Bellingham Slam News Release

Bellingham, Wash. - The Bellingham Slam are ranked 12th in the first American Basketball Association power rankings released by the league Monday, the team announced today. The top 24 teams in the power rankings will compete in the ABA playoffs in March. The power rankings take into account a team's record, strength of schedule and other factors to determine which teams advance to the playoffs and have home-court advantage.

The Slam are coming off a busy ten day stretch to start the season where there compiled a 3-2 record, winning twice against Beijing and once versus King County, while dropping a pair of two-point games to Hollywood. The team is being led by forward Mike Parker and guard Jacob Stevenson, averaging 30 and 23 points per game, respectively. The duo is leading five Slam players with double-figure scoring averages so far this season.

The top eight teams in the power rankings at the end of the regular season will receive a first-round bye in the playoffs, with the teams ranked nine through 16 hosting the teams ranked 17 through 24 in a first-round playoff game. Last season, the Slam won their first and second round playoff games before losing in the quarterfinals of the ABA championship tournament.

The Slam will travel on the road for the next two weeks to play games in King County, southern California and Mexico, before returning home to take on the Fresno Heatwave in a pair of games Dec. 12 and 13.
