Skyhawks Unable To Find Comeback In Magic In Loss
May 31, 2010 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
Sussex Skyhawks News Release
The Sussex Skyhawks suffered their second loss of the season to the Brockton Rox on Monday. Sussex starting pitcher RHP Tim Stringer struggled from the get-go, allowing three runs in the first inning on three hits and another two tallies over the remainder of his five innings of work. Brockton RHP Freddy Flores was solid, pitching six innings and allowing just two runs on five hits and one walk. He took the win, and Stringer was dealt the loss. RHP Josh Papelbon, younger brother of Boston Red Sox closer Jonathan Papelbon, pitched a scoreless ninth for the Rox.
Every hitter in the Brockton lineup registered a hit, save 2B Derek Kinzler. LF Mike Conroy and 3B Phillip Cuadrado both had three-hit days, and three Rox starters - Conroy, CF Chris Valencia, and C Chris Grossman - notched 2 RBI apiece. Sussex DH Caleb Stewart had the best day of any Skyhawk at the plate, going 2 for 4 with a run scored. RHP Kevin Gunter mopped up for the home team, allowing four runs (only two earned) in four innings pitched.
The Skyhawks will look to rebound from their first convincing loss of the year when they take on the Rox again at CenturyLink Field at Skylands Park on Tuesday night. Sussex LHP Jeff Icenogle, last week's recipient of the Poinstreak.com Pitcher of the Week award, will toe the rubber for the home team. LHP Logan Williamson will start for Brockton. First pitch is schedule for 7:05 p.m.
