Sioux Falls Skyforce News Release

Sioux Falls, SD - The Sioux Falls Skyforce (3-2) beat the Maine Red Claws (3-3) 97-77 in the first game of a back-to-back home series at the Sanford Pentagon on Friday night.

Maine started the game on a 12-4 run, paced heavily by some hot shooting by Malcolm Miller (14 points) who finished with eight points in the opening quarter. However, a balanced attack by Jarnell Stokes (24 points, 8 rebounds) and DeAndre Liggins (eight points, eight rebounds, five assists) helped Sioux Falls climb back to take a 23-19 lead heading into the break.

The Skyforce continued to pound the ball inside, attacking the basket to build a larger lead throughout the second quarter, scoring 20 more points in the paint than Maine in the first half. The Red Claws only managed to score 14 points in the quarter, and Sioux Falls brought a 47-33 lead into halftime.

A fast paced third quarter saw Maine cut the lead to just six points with the help of Jordan Mickey (12 points, 12 rebounds) and Omari Johnson (15 points, eight rebounds, five assists). Nevertheless, it was more of the same from the Skyforce as a steady inside attack helped them maintain a 73-63 lead heading into the final period.

Despite back to back steals and scores by Maine's Levi Randolph (14 points, four steals) in the final minute of action, the Skyforce defense buckled down in the fourth, only allowing 14 points in the final 15 minutes of play. The Skyforce finished with 60 points scored in the paint and pulled down 48 rebounds as a team. Keith Benson (14 points, 11 rebounds), Tre Kelley (14 points, five assists), and Greg Whittington (11 points, nine rebounds) also contributed to the all-around Sioux Falls victory.

The Skyforce will look for their fourth straight win on Saturday night at home against the Maine Red Claws in Sioux Falls.
