Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release
An eight run eighth inning by Sacramento killed any hopes of a Colorado Springs rally, and the Sky Sox fell to the RiverCats 16-8 Saturday night at Security Service Field in front of 2,288 fans.
Valerio De Los Santos (2-2) was a late insert into the Sky Sox starting lineup after scheduled starting pitcher Jose Capellan was called up to the big league club earlier in the day. The left-handed pitcher was not on top of his game, though, allowing seven runs in just four innings of work before the Sky Sox were able to put any numbers in their own runs column.
The Sky Sox started to rally from their deficit in the fifth inning when a two-run double by Edwin Bellorin brought the Sky Sox within three runs at 7-4. A seventh inning RBI double off the bat of Sean Barker followed by an RBI single from Joe Koshansky put the score at 8-6.
But that was close as the Sky Sox would come as the RiverCats sent 13 hitters to the plate in the eighth inning. Catcher Landon Powell hit a grand slam during the barrage of hits, and every batter in the Sacramento lineup scored except designated hitter Casey Rogowski.
Dan Meyer (2-1) picked up the victory for the RiverCats after allowing four runs in five innings of work.
The Sky Sox and RiverCats close out their four game series tomorrow afternoon at Security Service Field. Greg Reynolds (0-2, 6.33) looks to get his first win in a Sky Sox uniform while Gio Gonzalez (0-0, 2.50) looks to get his first victory in a Sacramento uniform. The first pitch is scheduled for 1:05 PM.
