Piscataway, N.J. - Sky Blue FC (1-2-1, 4 points) fell to the Western New York Flash (2-2-0, 6 points) at Yurcak Field on Saturday night, with the Flash registering a pair of second half goals in an eventual 2-1 result. Scoring the lone tally for Sky Blue FC in the pairing was Maya Hayes, who was named the Pine Belt of Lakewood Player of the Match.

"It is disappointing to suffer another loss at home. This is not something that sits well with us," said Christy Holly, Sky Blue FC head coach. "We showed a very good performance in the first half. In the second half, we had the opportunity to establish a foothold in the game, and we just did not do it. There were moments where we showed our lack of experience at this level, and we were ultimately punished for it. We will now sit down to discuss this match so we can make the proper adjustments as we start preparing for next week."

Sky Blue FC opened up the scoring in the 35th minute, making good on a series that was created by midfielder Raquel Rodriguez, who raced down the center of the field with the ball at her feet. Sprinting on her right was Hayes, and the Costa Rican international delivered a well-struck ball to the New Jersey native that split right through the Western New York back line. Hayes then quickly collected before firing a right-footed shot under an extended Sabrina D'Angelo to make it 1-0 in favor of the host side.

The Flash eventually leveled this contest in the 71st after a handball was called on Sky Blue FC defender Erica Skroski inside the box. The end result of the infraction was a penalty kick in favor of the Flash, and defender Jaelene Hinkle was able to convert and make it a 1-1 match.

Western New York then grabbed the lead in the 86th minute after Hinkle delivered a cross into the box for Jessica McDonald. Sky Blue FC goalkeeper Caroline Stanley went up for the ball and collided with McDonald, knocking it from the air. As Stanley went to the ground, midfielder Samantha Mewis raced onto the rebound and struck it into the back of the net. The tally gave the visitors a 2-1 edge, and it would eventually prove to be the game-winner.

Sky Blue FC remains home this week, hosting the Boston Breakers on Friday, May 13th. Tickets for that match are available now, and all fans who eat at Quaker Steak & Lube in Edison before the game will receive free parking for the match.
