Skiehar Rejoins IceGators

Lafayette, LA – Louisiana IceGators Head Coach and Vice President of Hockey Operations Todd Gordon today announced the team has agreed to terms with forward Shawn Skiehar for the 2004-05 season.

A 26 year-old native of Yorkton, Sask, Skiehar returns to the club for his third season as an IceGator. Skiehar played 30 games for Louisiana in 2001-02 scoring 1 goal and adding 2 assists to go along with 70 penalty minutes. In 2002-03, the 6'1" 205 pound forward scored 8 goals with 8 assists and found his way to the penalty box for 149 minutes. Last season, Skiehar played for the South Carolina Stingrays scoring 6 lamplighters with 145 PIMS. Skiehar is no stranger to South Louisiana, in addition to his time with the Gators, Skiehar played his first two seasons as a pro with the Lake Charles Ice Pirates.

"Shawn Skiehar is a rugged forward who plays the style of hockey we are looking for on this team, " said Gordon. "He was a fan favorite in Louisiana because of his attitude on the ice. Shawn still has that gritty mentality and will be a player to watch."

The Icegators today also announced the acquisition of defenseman Mike Dombkiewicz from the Johnstown Chiefs in return for future considerations. The 25 year old native of Buffalo, NY, will be playing in his first full professional season. Dombkiewicz played 2 games for the Chiefs last season and 9 games for the Pee-Dee Pride in 1999-00, tallying two assists. In between his stints in the ECHL, Dombkiewicz played three seasons of college hockey in Canada for the University of Prince Edward Island.

"Mike Dombkiewicz is a good offensive defenseman and should be a great asset on the power play." said Gordon.
