SUGAR LAND, TX - The Sugar Land Skeeters announced today that the club has added four more pitchers to the 2015 roster including the return of right-hander Andrew Johnston. Sugar Land also welcomes James Parr, Derrick Loop and John Lujan, all familiar faces to the Atlantic League.
Johnston, 30, returns to Sugar Land after posting a 2.38 ERA in 29 appearances with the team last season. Originally drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the 9th round of the 2005 Draft out of the University of Missouri-Columbia, the righty spent nine seasons in their minor league system. Johnston played for the Atlantic League's Camden Riversharks before signing with the Skeeters in July of 2014.
Parr, 29, was drafted in the 4th round of the 2004 Draft by the Atlanta Braves out of La Cueva High School in New Mexico. Parr spent several seasons in Atlanta's minor league system and earned the win in his major league debut with the Braves in 2008. In 2014, the right-hander returned to professional baseball for the first time since 2010, owning a 2.79 ERA with the Bridgeport Bluefish of the Atlantic League.
Loop, 31, signed with the Skeeters after playing the previous two seasons with Skeeters' Atlantic League rival, the Lancaster Barnstormers. Drafted by the Cleveland Indians in 2006 out of California State University-Los Angeles, the lefty holds a 3.30 ERA and has collected 552 strikeouts during nine seasons of professional baseball. Loop comes to Sugar Land off an Atlantic League Championship title with the Barnstormers and a 3.24 ERA last season.
Lujan, 30, made 34 appearances in his second stint with the Camden Riversharks last season, striking out 21 players during his time on the mound. The right-hander initially signed with the Texas Rangers in the 15th round of the 2004 Draft out of New Mexico Junior College. Lujan owns a 3.86 ERA and has earned 64 saves over 10 seasons of professional baseball.
