Skeeters Sign Former Red Sox Minor League Catcher Jake Romanski

SUGAR LAND, TX - The Sugar Land Skeeters today announced the signing of former Boston Red Sox minor league catcher Jake Romanski.

Romanski, 29, spent the 2019 season at the Double-A and Triple-A levels with the Red Sox, hitting a combined .209/.248/.255 in 36 games.

The Red Sox drafted Romanski in the 14th round of the 2013 MLB Draft out of San Diego State University and he has spent all six of his seasons at the affiliated minor league level within Boston's system.

Romanski was selected as a South Atlantic League Mid-Season All-Star in 2014 as well as an Eastern League All-Star in 2016. Romanski was also selected as a Red Sox MiLB.com Organizational All-Star in 2016, hitting .308/.338/.410 with four home runs and 38 RBIs while with Double-A Portland.

Over seven seasons at the affiliated minor league level, Romanski has hit .267/.309/.353 with 12 homers and 145 RBIs in 375 games, appearing in 342 games at catcher.

While at San Diego State, Romanski was named to the 2012 Mountain West All-Tournament Team, hitting .471 (8-for-17) over the three-day tournament. Prior to playing at San Diego State, Romanski appeared at Chaffey Junior College (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) where he was an All-Foothill League Gold Glove recipient in both of his seasons with the team.

The Skeeters, two-time winners of the Atlantic League Championship, begin their ninth season of play in the Atlantic League at Constellation Field on April 30.
