
Skeeters Sign Former Major League LHP David Holmberg

SUGAR LAND, TX - The Sugar Land Skeeters today announced the signing of former Major League left-hander David Holmberg.
Holmberg, 27, made his Major League debut with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2013 and has also appeared at the Major League level with the Cincinnati Reds (2014-15) and the Chicago White Sox (2017). He was the ninth youngest player to appear in the Majors in 2013.
Over four Major League seasons, Holmberg is 5-10 with a 5.49 ERA through 51 appearances (19 starts), spanning 119 ? innings pitched. Holmberg made a career-high 37 outings (seven starts) with the White Sox in 2017, going 2-4 with a career-low 4.68 ERA.
The White Sox drafted Holmberg in the second round of the 2009 MLB Draft out of Port Charlotte High School (Port Charlotte, Fla.). Holmberg was traded from the White Sox, along with right-hander Daniel Hudson, to the Diamondbacks in July 2010 in exchange for right-hander Edwin Jackson He was ranked as the Diamondbacks' No. 6 prospect entering the 2013 season, per Baseball America.
Holmberg was selected as a Mid-Season Midwest League All-Star in 2011 with Single-A South Bend (ARI), a Mid-Season California League All-Star in 2012 with High-A Visalia (ARI) and a Mid-Season Southern League All-Star in 2013 with Double-A Mobile (ARI). He was also selected as a Diamondbacks MiLB.com Organizational All-Star in 2013. Holmberg was tied for second in MiLB with 173 ? innings pitched in 2012, pitching with High-A Visalia and Double-A Mobile.
The Diamondbacks traded Holmberg to the Reds in December 2013 in a three-team deal that also sent former Major League All-Star right-hander Heath Bell and veteran catcher Ryan Hanigan to the Tampa Bay Rays.
Holmberg last appeared at the affiliated level in 2018 with Triple-A Albuquerque (Colorado Rockies), going 7-8 with a 5.21 ERA in 22 appearances (18 starts). Over 10 professional seasons, Holmberg is 66-76 with a 4.00 ERA in 267 appearances (1,275 IP).
