CLEARWATER, Fl - Despite holding a 2-0 lead in the sixth, the Clearwater Threshers had their three-game winning streak snapped with a 7-3 loss to the Bradenton Marauders on Saturday night at BayCare Ballpark. Due to the game beginning after 9:00 p.m. (following a 2:32 weather delay), the contest was only seven innings.

Right-hander Gunner Mayer made his fifth start of the season on the mound for Clearwater, turning in his best performance of the 2022 campaign. Mayer allowed no runs on two hits, walking one and striking out an impressive nine hitters in four innings of work.

The Threshers (8-15, 43-45) opened the scoring in the first inning, loading the bases via two walks and a hit by pitch before grabbing a 2-0 lead on a two-run single by Andrick Nava.

With Clearwater leading 2-0 in the sixth, right-handed reliever Alex Garbrick returned for a second inning of work on the mound but was removed after loading the bases with one out. After fellow righty Rodolfo Sanchez entered and recorded the second out, Sanchez allowed a grand slam to Juan Jerez that gave the Marauders (15-8, 44-44) their first lead, 4-2.

Leading 4-2 in the seventh, the Marauders tacked on three more insurance runs on three bases loaded walks. All three walks were issued by Clearwater left-hander Jared Wetherbee to give the visitors a 7-2 advantage.

While the Threshers pushed home one run in the seventh on a triple by Jamari Baylor and RBI infield single from Erick Brito, the home team couldn't inch any closer in the 7-3 final.

Clearwater and Bradenton meet for the final time in 2022 with a rubber match of the three-game series on Sunday afternoon at 12:00 p.m. The Threshers will look to win their first home series since May 10. Coverage on the Threshers Broadcasting Network will begin at 11:50 a.m.
