Six Runs in the Eighth Lift the Bears to Victory

The Yakima Bears scored a season-high 11 runs in an 11-5 victory over the Vancouver Canadians at Yakima County Stadium Wednesday. The Bears improved to 5-10 in the second half of the Northwest League season with the win.
The game was back and forth throughout, with the Bears rallying to tie twice before winning with a six-run eighth inning.
The Bears scored two runs in the first inning, as Westley Moss led off with a walk, moved to second on a groundout, and then scored off of a Garrett Weber single. Weber scored as well when Carter Bell hit a double off the right field wall.
The Bears gave up the lead when the Canadians scored two runs in the third inning off of struggling starter Yiomar Camacho. Camacho left the game after the third inning, having allowed four hits, three walks, while also hitting a batter.
Vancouver added two more in the fourth to take a 4-2 lead off of Bears reliever Mike Blake, who lasted just two thirds of an inning.
After loading the bases in the fifth inning, the Bears were able to score two runs on infield ground balls by Jimmy Comerota and Garrett Weber.
Drew Zizinia looked sharp in two innings of work, recording four strikeouts and allowing no hits, but he left a runner on at second base when he exited the game in the sixth inning. That runner scored when Greg Robinson gave up a single and the Bears trailed 5-4.
Justin Hilt led off the sixth inning for the Bears with a walk, then stole second base and moved to third on a groundout. Hilt came in to score the tying run on a sacrifice fly to centerfield by Steve Rodriguez.
After two shutout innings from Justin Albert, the Bears blew up offensively in the eighth for six innings. Henry Zabala led off with a single and scored when Hilt blasted a two-run opposite field home run. Danny Pulfer reached on a bunt single, Kerry Jenkins hit a single up the middle and Moss blooped a single to the outfield that scored Pulfer. Both Jenkins and Moss came in to score when Comerota hit a double to deep right field and Comerota scored off a Weber single.
Comerota, who rejoined the team just an hour before the first pitch, and Weber both finished with two hits and three RBIs. Moss also had two hits in the game, while Kerry Jenkins went 3-for-4. The Bears totaled 14 hits, as nine of the 10 hitters who came to the plate for the Bears had at least one hit.
The win went to Albert, who improved to 2-1. Sammy De Los Santos tossed a scoreless ninth to secure the win.
While the Bears committed the only error of the game, the team turned in several highlight reel caliber plays, including a great catch from each outfielder.
The Bears and Canadians play game two of the five-game series Thursday night at Yakima County Stadium. Game time is scheduled for 7:05. The probable starting pitchers are lefty Adam Kudryk of the Bears and right-handed pitcher Jesse Hernandez of the Canadians.
