Augusta GreenJackets News Release
FREDERICKSBURG, VA: The 12-game road trip for the Augusta GreenJackets (20-20) did not finish in their favor as they were defeated by the Fredericksburg Nationals (26-15) in the series finale by a score of 9-1.
The GreenJackets began the afternoon contest strong by taking a first-inning lead courtesy of David McCabe who singled home Stephen Paolini to make it 1-0 Augusta.
But that would be the only point the GreenJackets were ahead as the Nationals stormed back in the bottom of the first with six runs on six hits with Brandon Boissiere and Geraldi Diaz highlighting the inning with a pair of two-run hits to give Fredericksburg a 6-1 lead.
They'd score another run in the second on a wild pitch to extend the lead to 7-1.
In the fourth, the Nationals put two more runs on the board off the bat of Brandon Boissiere who hit a two-run homer with two outs to make it a 9-1 game in favor of Fredericksburg.
It was tough sledding the rest of the afternoon for Augusta as they finished with just one hit from the third inning on as they fell in the series finale to Fredericksburg 9-1.
Both starting pitchers factored into the final decision as Bryan Caceras (5-6) picked up the win for the Nationals and Rainiery Rodriguez (2-3) took the loss for the GreenJackets.
Despite Sunday's defeat, Augusta still won the series over Fredericksburg by winning four of the games and finished with a strong record of 10-2 on the 12-game road trip with the offense scoring 109 runs in the 12 games.
The GreenJackets will now return home for the start of their most important series of the season as they play host to the first-place, Charleston RiverDogs with the first of seven games against their rival coming on Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. at SRP Park.
The tenth homestand of the season for the GreenJackets begins on Tuesday, August 16 against the Charleston RiverDogs (Tampa Bay Rays) with $2 TWOsday and First Responder Tuesday. The week continues with Warrior Wednesday, the Corona Bucket Special, and Baseball Bingo. Thursday is a double-header at SRP Park starting at 5:05 with a special appearance from the Dueling Pianos Group and Thirsty Thursday. The weekend begins with Sweetwater Night at the ballpark with specialty jerseys with an auction that will benefit North Augusta Forward/FROG in addition to Braves BUZZFest. The White Claw Pregame Concert Series starts off Saturday Night with live music from Greg Fortune from 4:30-5:30 with a postgame fireworks extravaganza to follow. The homestand wraps up Auggie's Birthday Bash as you can celebrate the birthday of the best mascot in CSRA!
