Old Orchard Beach News Release
Chelmsford, Mass. - Six Brockton Rox standouts will be heading to Nashua next week as the rosters for the inaugural Futures Collegiate Baseball League All Star Game have been unveiled. Representing the Rox are Sean Ryan (Wheaton), Greg Baggett (Bentley), Vito Perna (Southeastern Louisiana), Joe Fasano (New Jersey Institute of Technology), Jonathan Rosenberger (Newberry), and Michael Romano (North Carolina Central).
The FCBL All-Star Game will pit the Original 4 franchises (Martha's Vineyard, Torrington, Seacoast, and Nashua) against the new expansion teams (Pittsfield, Wachusett, North Shore, Old Orchard Beach, and Brockton). The game will be held at 7:00 p.m. in Nashua, N.H. at historic Holman Stadium on Thursday, July 26th.
Each roster is currently comprised of 24 players: two catchers, 12 position players, and 10 pitchers. To select the 25th and final spot on each team we will be conducting a fan vote on the FCBL Facebook page.
Brockton Rox infielder Tanner Reibenspies (San Diego State) is among the nominees for the final roster spot on the New 5 squad. The slick fielding middle infielder from Simi Valley, California is tied for the team lead in runs scored with 19 and leads the Rox in walks with 16. Reibenspies is hitting .227 with 22 hits, three doubles, seven RBIs, and seven stolen bases.
Ryan, a starting outfielder for the New 5 and an early-season MVP candidate, has undoubtedly been one of the most productive players in the FCBL this season, as he leads the team with a .374 batting average, which ranks second in the league. The speedy outfielder has stolen a team-high 13 bases to go along with his four triples, which stands as an FCBL single-season record. The Norton native has notched six doubles, 19 RBIs, and 15 runs scored to go along with a team-high 40 hits on the year. He also leads the team in OPS (.924) and on-base percentage (.419).
Baggett, the starting catcher for the New 5, has provided some serious power in the middle of the order for Brockton. One of the top catchers in the league, Baggett owns a team-high slugging percentage of .519, while also leading the Rox in doubles (8), RBIs (21), and extra-base hits (14). The East Bridgewater native is also tied for the team lead in homers (3) and runs scored (19), while hitting .298 with 13 walks.
One of the few two-way players in the FCBL, Perna has entrenched himself into the Rox lineup as the everyday third baseman to accompany his duties as a starting pitcher. The Mississippi native is hitting .326 with 28 hits, one double, two home runs, 12 RBIs, eight walks, and 10 runs scored. He owns an OPS of .796, a slugging percentage of .407, and an on-base percentage of .389. Not to mention that as a pitcher, he leads the team in strikeouts with 29.
Fasano has emerged as one of the top pitchers in the FCBL this season as he boasts a pristine 1.64 ERA to go along with a WHIP of 1.21. In 33 innings of work, the right-hander has struck out 22 while walking just nine. Opponents are hitting just .242 against Fasano, who is 1-2 in six starts this season. On July 12th, the New York native hurled one of the best performances of the season, scattering a pair of unearned runs on six hits and two walks while striking out seven in eight strong innings of work against the Seacoast Mavericks
Rosenberger has been dialed in for the Rox on the mound, going 2-1 this season with a 3.06 ERA. The right-hander has fanned 25 batters while walking just eight in 35.1 innings of work. In six starts, Rosenberger has limited opponents to a .225 batting average against, while boasting a WHIP of 1.14. The South Carolina native was locked in on June 30th against the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs, as he conceded just two walks and one hit in seven shutout inning on the mound, while striking out seven.
Romano has been outstanding as a long reliever for the Brockton Rox this season, as he posts a 3.16 ERA to go along with a 2-2 record in 25.2 innings of work. The southpaw has walked just three batters all summer, while striking out 20 in nine appearances. The Virginia native owns a WHIP of 1.08, while holding opposing hitters to a .245 batting average against.
Prior to the game, the FCBL will be holding MLB Scout Day, where the All Stars and selected players will showcase their skills in front of Major League scouts.
The head coach of the Original 4 team will be B.J. Neverett, who is the head coach of the Nashua Silver Knights. Coaching for the New 5 team will be the associate head coach and director of baseball operations for the North Shore Navigators Jon Cahill.
