Six New Members Join the Express

January 12, 2009 - Indoor Football League (IFL) - San Angelo Stampede Express News Release

The Stampede Express hosted an open tryout this past Saturday and newly hired Head Coach Sonnie Cumbie decided on 6 new players to come to training camp. Coach Cumbie was impressed with Derrik Hill, Ben Galica, Richard Morris, Michael Thompson, Tommy Staples and Thomas Tipton.

Richard Morris is a 6'2" 185 lb defensive back/wide receiver from Paul Quinn College. Morris spent the 2008 season with the Frisco Thunder. Derrik Hill is a 6'1" 235 lb linebacker who played college ball at Angelo State University. Hill also has arena experience as he played for the Odessa Roughnecks in 2007.

Tommy Staples comes to San Angelo by the way of the University of Oklahoma. Staples is a 5'9" 200 lb kicker. Michael Thompson is looking to make the team at the DB/WR position. Thompson is from Marehouse College and is 5'9" and weighs 178 lbs.

Two local boys made the cut as well. Thomas Tipton is 5'11" 185 lb wide receiver from Angelo State University. Tipton is also a graduate of Water Valley High School. Ben Galica will be battling Tipton at the receiver position in training camp. Galica is 6'3" 208 lbs and hails from Ballinger.

The Stampede Express will begin their 6th season, with the first home game being April 4th versus the Colorado Ice at 7:05 at the San Angelo Coliseum. Stampede Express Football, half the field twice the excitement... THE GAME is on!
