Spokane Shock News Release

The Spokane Shock announced today that they have reached an agreement to retain Assitant Head Coach/Defensive Coordinator Alex Sirianni and Line Coach Steve Emtman for the 2008 season. Their contracts will become official in mid-March, pending league approval.

"We had an extraordinary staff last year, and it was important to bring them back," Shackleford said. "Coach Emtman has a tremendous understanding of the game and his NFL experience commands the players' respect. Coach Sirianni demonstrated his coaching ability last season. His defense was a key component of our success last year."

The Sirianni-led Shock defense placed near the top of the league in several key defensive categories including 6th in the league in total defense (allowing an average of 246 yards per game) 7th in points allowed (42.2 per game), and 4th in rushing defense (15 yards per game).

Sirianni, a Mercer Island-native, is currently an assistant Coach at Ferris High School, the state's top-ranked football program. Before coming to the Shock last season, Sirianni spent the previous two years as the Linebackers Coach at Anderson University alongside Shackleford.

Coach Shackleford is hoping to add one more Coach to his staff in the upcoming weeks. This addition will complete his coaching staff for the 2008 season.
