Sippio, Sykes and Holman Earn Week 8 Honors

CHICAGO - Orlando WR BOBBY SIPPIO, San Jose DL JOE SYKES and Jacksonville lineman JASON HOLMAN have been named Russell Athletic Offensive Player of the Week, Riddell Defensive Player of the Week and JLS Ironman of the Week, respectively, for Week 8 of the 2012 AFL season. In addition to these three awards, the AFL is also awarding the Cutters Catch of the Week, AFL Playmaker of the Week and Spalding Highlight of the Week. The Cutters Catch of the Week award winner for Week 8 is DB ROD MOSLEY of the Tampa Bay Storm, while the AFL Playmaker of the Week is Pittsburgh WR MIKE WASHINGTON. The Spalding Highlight of the Week award winner is Tampa Bay WR CHANDLER WILLIAMS.

RUSSELL ATHLETIC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Sippio (6-3, 215, Western Kentucky) hauled in 12 balls for 152 yards and five touchdowns in the Predators 69-53 loss to the Philadelphia Soul in Week 8. All three numbers represent team-highs for the year. Since rejoining the team three weeks ago, Sippio has become a major contributor, recording 22 receptions for 270 yards and eight touchdowns.

RIDDELL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Sykes (6-5, 280, Southern) set a new franchise record with 4.0 sacks in the team's 76-33 dismantling of the Iowa Barnstormers in Week 8. Sykes, who leads the League with 10.0 sacks on the year, also recorded five tackles for loss in the game to go along with a forced fumble and fumble recovery.

JLS IRONMAN OF THE WEEK

Holman (6-3, 320, Arkansas-Pine Bluff) displayed his versatility in Week 8, starting the game at nose guard, but catching snaps on the offensive side of the ball as well as an offensive lineman and fullback. Holman recorded five rushing yards in the game.

CUTTERS CATCH OF THE WEEK

Mosley (5-11, 185, Texas A&M-Kingsville) came up with an impressive off-the-wall interception in the end zone during the third quarter of Tampa Bay's 63-46 win over the Kansas City Command in Week 8. Playing in his first game since joining the team late last week, it was Mosley's first interception of the year.

AFL PLAYMAKER OF THE WEEK

Washington (5-8, 175, Hawaii) caught a franchise-record 13 passes in Pittsburgh's Week 8 loss to the Cleveland Gladiators. Washington finished the game with a team-high 170 receiving yards and three touchdowns.

SPALDING HIGHLIGHT OF THE WEEK

Williams (5-11, 180, Florida International) recorded three touchdowns in three different phases of the game in Week 8. Early in the second quarter, he hauled in a four-yard touchdown pass. To open up the fourth, he returned a kickoff 56 yards for a score. To cap his night off, Williams recovered a loose ball in the end zone for a third score.

Russell Athletic Offensive Player of the Week candidates included: Cleveland's Dominick Goodman, Milwaukee's Marcus Everett, San Jose's Ben Nelson and Tampa Bay's Prechae Rodriguez.

Riddell Defensive Player of the Week candidates included: Spokane's Freddie Harris, Cleveland's Joe Phinisee, Philadelphia's Rayshaun Kizer, Utah's David Hyland, Arizona's Arkeith Brown and Tampa Bay's Steve Octavien.

JLS Ironman of the Week candidates included: Cleveland's Robert Redd, Orlando's Dwayne Eley, Jr., Milwaukee's Marcus Everett and Arizona's Kerry Reed.

The Arena Football League is also awarding the National Guard MVP of the Week, where fans are given the opportunity to select the winner. Candidates include Cleveland Gladiators WR DOMINICK GOODMAN, Milwaukee Mustangs WR/LB MARCUS EVERETT and Tampa Bay WR CHANDLER WILLIAMS. The winner will be announced on Thursday, May 3, 2012.
