Sioux City Musketeers News Release
Muskegon, MI - The Musketeers were back at the L.C. Walker arena on Friday night but were unable to complete the sweep of the Lumberjacks, dropping this one by a final score of 6-2.
Unlike last night where it was the Musketeers who jumped out to the early lead, tonight it was the Lumberjacks who took the early advantage. Nate Knoepke was called for a cross-check just 4 minutes into the game, and Matej Pekar would find the back of the net on the powerplay. Anthony Del Gaizo put Muskegon up by two just over a minute later, when he slipped a bouncing puck by Ben Kraws. While there wasn't any goal scoring after that, there was plenty of fireworks.
It was clear from puck drop that the Lumberjacks wanted to play a physical game tonight and physical it was. Martin Pospisil engaged in what can only be called a semi-fight twice due to a few Lumberjack roughing and cross-checking penalties. Pospisil would get ejected from the game after all of this occured. The Lumberjacks continued to throw hard hits all night long, and the intensity only ramped up as the game progressed.
Muskegon came out hard and fast in the 2nd period and would tak a 3-0 lead six minutes into the period. The Musketeers responded quickly on a goal by Dylan Mills, his third of the weekend, to cut the deficit to two. Fifty seconds later, Luke Johnson sent home a wrist shot from the point, for his first USHL goal to pull the Musketeers within one. That would be as close as Sioux City would unfortunately get. Muskegon added 3 more goals in the period, for a total of six on the game.
Sioux City struggled to find any offense in the 3rd period and would drop the second game against the Lumberjacks by a final score of 6-2.
The Musketeers are back in action on Monday at 6:00 p.m. CST to finish their game with the Madison Capitols. You can catch all the action live on HockeyTV 620 KMNS or Buffalo Wild Wings.
