Singleton Helps Fever to Win
March 15, 2012 - Indoor Football League (IFL)
Tri-Cities Fever News Release
Lionell Singleton paid very close attention the game film of the Colorado Ice leading up to last Saturday night's game. In particular, he noticed that one of the Ice's formations was specifically designed for a curl route for a short gain. That attention to detail nearly resulted in a first-quarter interception, just missing David Knighton's pass by mere inches.
Knighton wasn't so lucky the second time.
Singleton read the route perfectly again on a similar play in the second quarter, this time he closed the gap and made the interception. It was the first of two on the night as he helped lead the Fever to a 64-50 win over Colorado as Tri-Cities stayed perfect on the season with a 3-0 record. "I watched a lot of game film," Singleton said after the win. "I noticed that route was coming and just made a good break on the ball."
This type of play has become the norm for Singleton this season. His two interceptions give him five on the season, tied for first in the Indoor Football League. In 14 regular season games last season, Singleton had just three interceptions. "He's a great leader in our secondary and is really playing well for us right now," said Fever coach Adam Shackleford. Singleton is not the only Fever player to be at or near the top of some statistical categories in the IFL.
Quarterback Houston Lillard ranks second in the league among starting quarterbacks with a passer rating of 117.8 and is second in passing touchdowns with 13. Lillard is also tied for first in the IFL with six rushing touchdowns and third in rushing yards with 146.
Steven Whitehead is tied for second in the league with 22 receptions and six receiving touchdowns.
Kicker Michael Taylor ranks first in extra points made (20).
The Tri-Cities Fever return to action next Thursday night (March 22) at the Everett Raptors. Kickoff is 7:05 p.m.
